poem || Jeff Harrison

remembrance shall a seaweed effort match

shipwreck left here to shipwreck, yet
farthest delicate water's rescued like twilight!
like twilight rescued from afternoon praise! ...
(sotto voce): it does merit my astonishment song.

:

sea
floated upon
sleep, so
sleep drowned
when sleep turned around

:

NOTE. the apostrophe separating the "s" from the "r"
in "water's" is, as you've guessed, a spacious pause,
causing the "s" to hiss like twilight rescued from afternoon praise

(the pause revisits, albeit briefly, the prow-Virginia's limitless hush)
