poem || Marianna Kijanowska

translated from Ukrainian to English by Volodymyr Bilyk

***
when everything goes and begins

past fall
takes ice
on water's surface
where does those leaves
comes from
everything is predicted
just today
with blooddrops of the birds
from side to side
dry and rustling
innocent fall
just like every bane
must come
and everything goes differently
for the bottom
when times comes to disappear
deep danger of the snow
just like any other danger
stops to be just like any other
it boils
in blooddrops of the birds
and someone sprinkles
these dry and bitter gingerbread of leaves
with sugar and ashes
it's you
on the water's surface
but not after new testament
