poem || Christopher Barnes

Lord Byron Buys a Self-Parking Car

Oh! Thine be the gladness   of shoe-gazing
convenience
Forgive me adored one        for
homestroking all chonged
But the heart
           blisses-out,
downright scooby
And man shall not break it   nor a bona
polone

Glossary of slang: Chonged – Stoned; Scooby – Delicious; Bona – Good; Polone – Woman.

poem || Lawrence Upton

Composition
[multivoice]
and sails upon that subject
and looks at me

her skin's a circle
breaks logic
is a feeling of urgency

going to smash the white wall

smell of the tree brushing space
to break the door down

an innermost room
can be a crack in a circle

going
jests at the sentence

sIfts
it off the road
going

speak in your life
sit in your own punctuation
a crack in the middle of heaven would not solve

be uttered unformatted
in the population
an economic infrastructure

perception has a violent motion
mumbling no answer
it's almost empty with a pause
tremble!

between two figures how stands the mouth now?

separate a head to utter itself?

two halves of the country

by paragraph breaks?

became physically weak
she was! she speaks

and sails upon that subject
and looks at me

understanding darkness
when lights flicker in
is muttering no answer

A disheartening scenery
multivoice

fingers concentrate
video of doing

So, you were diseased; so?
So?
modes of paraphrase
ridiculousness from someone
who couldn't live anywhere else

exploration of changes
mundane sensitivities

comprehensions each
aethereal emptiness
interpretation of shadow
shifting
often obscured
submission to taste
some overlap

more confidence
in favour of words
copied into music

claustrophobic

concealment
landlocked space mimicked
with breath disruption

a disheartening scenery

Half-Hour Affair

Slackened fling
in slyly flexing
appetite perdition face
of outsourced being.

Panties bite my underarm
with axle hive impeller belt
teasing skinny highway chain
beneath diurnal swarm.

Keyhole

Anthropoids emerge in topiary paste.
Owls emit a freckled melba.
Flowers film at forty furlongs.
Choice corrodes to limpid keyhole.

Tungsten Tomboy

Quirky piebald tonic quaffing
laggard galleon glowing temptress
longing frothy tankard Taser
taunting cosmic static charging
clockwise time tomato teething
tungsten trampoline.

Dreaming the Heat to Wake

fire scent season
evokes thrills of first breath

*

exaltation software escalates
the armada’s drift to recollection

memory stars a lost compass

*

wander lines parse love
a lark of shuddered longing
yet the season sings mad

music birdsong light
and squawk a morning dial
turning oak louder

their words attempt to wake

*

fibrous necessity ripens
a scent no rarity usurps
wandering spirits heard

a season grown random
left its dreaming essence

*

flattering music
pleases a broiled desire tray

mad
with naked platitudes

*

dreams ascend
as minute-hand smoke

a blank page
exhales narrative defection

 Language on the Course

      word emporiums
caddy bagels miss control

     intrepid clatter      boom boom
the vocal rogue worn  shatter currency
magical definition

no stagger filter elicits wires only

slipping a classics grudge
buttons best before  faded             (profit)
catacombs fretting forever
          (worn decimal miles)
the latitudes
slow pork locus left port
                                  mentor alongside

cargo peaks
a stolen rehearsal ratio      gone

     habits their revenge
     a binary whitewash

the fetal repentance
     manipulated the dream
          lacing gargoyle choir pockets
templates bartered

not the sly outplay
empty repentance        rehearsal

to play a well-bent lecture frenzy

Delivering the Music

the postmark that got away
replied no sending firm attached
or matter
               to the subway
     stationed             at last roll
           blithely to oblivion

                        *

aiming at the train stop
no message            detached
 ambience in card charade

   patio affirmation        a reflux insurgent
no aromatic emblem           attacked
                                    the gastric epitome

                           *

no disincentive        urgently packing
                       to stay

              a                  while
          packet             surges
          ahead              destroying
            the track
                          least afforded

                                *

reaching digestive entropy
the rage in the gut dispersing

lettered pages
of leather intention

     silver studs
left there for the beating to dry
before
           the hand played
          on
the frayed cuffs
          a
      melody          cleverly left

                   as origin

Haste Machine

Across ripples in glass, to snow-blind sheets of papered edge of peppercorn, to pepperoni osmosis in tender call of bird-loin wingtip cornrow blowgun art confabulation self, a stealthily concocted haste machine flows constructed within mind.

Forgiven surveyed yield containers wind in pulley hopscotch trudge down marigolds of solitude to semiotic bas relief to filigree of idiosyncratic public feast to festive scoop hatch plunker ducket tone hut symptomatic crawlspace.

Fumes abandon hairpiece warlock set on side lobe carrion mouthpiece wise guy cracker harp in tuned tie gator swamp clash bursar nag off semblance liner quote of chapped azimuth.

Out comes spurtin’ specious sea cane, spurious and moist, in night of cool reclaimed eclectic bunt valise or furor into goat emotion totem spool of wirehair lozenge sizzle trap, adorning pleasant kumquat skeet or herd genomic bleating ritual reparations gristle onto narwhal.
