haibun || Sheila E. Murphy

It motions as though seaswash seared the flesh in one swift
midnight. Pointillist prompts, in sheets across a slate sky.
Dreams do not employ indifference. They hold through halves of day until return time. What is tabled leaves existence still uncovered. An unattended innocence revives unlikely moments, all one. Tissues of awareness register a swatch of warmth. Measures of tone resist measures of rest. Apart from choice, one is assigned amid others with roles. Each functions as removed from meaning as a collective noun. With hesitation, one mourns thought. If clarity imposed transaction, there would be surface depth. Now shadows frame appearances of other shadows.

In situ, nominative case, specifics at random gathered
