poem || Peter Sherburn-Zimmer

stop drinking the morning coffee for today

despite recent calibrations of the soul
breaking all the rules? no,
just the latest guidelines
to avoid excess
to maintain access to my own thoughts
the sky is homogeneous this morning, my love,
the air is in equilibrium.
We know the sounds have passed her apogee once again
but we don't know what that means

or so it begins
pulse thundering in my right ear
time to be here with myself
coffee warm weak but ok
breathing exercises
need to run
more than a couple seconds
to be effective

my brain is still stuck
on the day before yesterday,
and I am uncomfortable
not being able
to move forward
emotionally
etcetera
