poem || Peter Sherburn-Zimmer

Mr. Internet Explains

He knows people of conscience
and people of passion.  People
he admires, day in, day out.
Today is the only day he lives.  Here,
the only place.  Gaza, Congo,
South San Francisco...Corso in Rome,
Zanzibar overpopulated...
  Electricity
and supersymmetry...everything
mystifies him, everything interests
him: vaginas and Sanskrit
and how do you connect it all together,
really, the connections more than the elements?
--and if its useful, but its ok
 if it ain't.
The song in the background –
not his.  The door on the room –
not to his liking.  The restriction, 24 hours
to a day ... he wants more.  And,
he'll fritter away whatever time he has
  anyway.
