poem || David Jalajel
ascension
social precision rather than compassion
defines humility’s integral works
according to the first directive gives a
feeling of insecure propriety
dictates each crisis hopeless-seeming calls
on humble solace won’t allow to surface
beyond our creature passions host sublime
turning points of yearning suddenly
to servanthood and crowding out disciples
as ought grow calm support for deeds surround
enjoying fame’s rewards anticipating
pats on the back and some high-fives procure
this self-effacing depreciated status
of no hard gains no post-climactic rest
